We all have been asking questions and trying to get answers to those questions.

Question and Answers are going on between children and parents, students and teachers, press and politicians, master and disciple, etc. These questions and answers have been going on since the dawn of time.

I am going to write about 4 baffling enquiries and their subsequent responses. These questions and answers are deep and their meaning significant.

4 Bewildering Questions

I recently heard 4 bewildering questions that were answered precisely and authentically. I am going to share these questions and answers with you.

Btw, the below-described story is genuine and factual. I will write in a story form, the way, I have heard it.

Once upon a time, in the royal assembly of Maharaj Yudhistir, the ideal king, came a person. He requested to see Maharaj Yudhistir and said, he has a very important question to ask the king.

Maharaj Yudhistir, younger brother Nakul, with folded hand, mentioned that King is busy in an important meeting. He may ask the question to him and he will try to answer them.

The men asked Nakul, he was passing by the rice field, and he saw the scarecrow was eating the rice.

Nakul, on hearing the question, was bewildered and wonder how can that be possible?

He replied to the man, saying, that he doesn’t know the answer and he can consult with his elder brother, Sahadev, and he might be able to answer his question.

The men questioned Sahadev that, he saw a man, drawing water from well, filling a big pot, then empty the big pot into 4 small pots. He emptied the 4 small pots again into the big pot but it was only half filled.

Sahadev couldn’t grasp how a simple mathematical equation can go so wrong. He folded his hands and requested the man to see his elder brother Arjuna.

Arjuna, the best among the archers, inquired how he can serve the man.

The men questioned Arjuna that, he saw a man in the forest. He was trying to pass an elephant through an eye of the needle. Astonishingly the elephant passed through the needle however the tail got stuck in the eye of the needle. How could such a thing be possible?

Arjuna contemplated for a while and directed the man to Bhima.

Bhima, the accomplisher of herculean tasks, listened attentively to the man’s question

The men asked Bhima that, he saw a very thin, skinny, boy tying a mountain, with a thread and he pulled the mountain and amazingly the mountain moved. How can that ever happen?

Since Bhima could perform tasks which require extraordinary strength, left completely puzzled on hearing the man’s question.

All of the 4 brothers request the man to wait while they call their eldest brother, Maharaj Yudhishtir.

All of them repeated the questions to Maharaj Yudhishtir, on hearing these questions, Maharaj Yudhishtir at once order the brothers to arrest the men.

When all the brothers went to arrest the man, the man was not to be found. The brothers were surprised by man’s absence. They informed Maharaj Yudhishtir about the man’s disappearance.

Maharaj Yudhishtir, the righteousness personified, revealed that the man was none other than personality of Kali (click the link at the end of the post to find out more about personality of Kali)

He went on to educated his brothers on those 4 baffling enquiries. Those questions were no simple questions rather general qualities of people in the age of Kali

Maharaj Yudhishtir answered, the first question, “Scarecrow eating paddy.”

In the age of Kali Yuga (age of quarrel and hypocrisy), those who are supposed to protect their subjects will exploit their subject

This is very much evident in today’s time. Every day we hear & see how government, leaders, and others’ who are in a position of responsibility, they exploit the same subjects they are supposed to protect and care. Newspapers are filled with such news. The grossest example of such exploitation is abortion. How a helpless child in the womb of his mother gets killed by his own mother. The mother who is suppose to nourish and protect the child, kills the same child.

The clever, cunning, and so-called leaders try to sanitize & sugar coat such a gross & degradable act by saying, medical termination of pregnancy…. such is the state of affairs in this age of Kali

Maharaj Yudhishtir answered, the second question, “Why 1 big pot filled the 4 small pots and 4 small pots couldn’t re-fill 1 big pot.”

In the age of Kali Yuga (age of quarrel and hypocrisy), A father, the sole breadwinner of the family, could take care of 4 children however these 4 children couldn’t take care of their ageing father together.

This is another sad state of this age. A single father, of course, I am taking about the responsible father, could take care of all the children of the family, whereas the grown up children aren’t able to take care of their ageing parents. In has become a norm to send off the ageing parents to old age homes or to leave them with maids, or arguments between brothers and sister who will take the burden of their ageing parents.

In general, this is happening more and more. However there are still some responsible children around to take care of their parents in their old age.

Maharaj Yudhishtir answered, the third question, “How was it possible for an elephant to pass through an eye of needle and to have his tail got stuck.”

In the age of Kali Yuga (age of quarrel and hypocrisy), Big Big thieves, criminals, corrupt politician, businessmen, leaders, and rogues will get away easily from the law whereas petty offenders will get stuck.

I don’t think that this requires much explanation. There is enough evidence & news that so many corrupt politicians, criminals and leaders, especially in 3rd world countries get from the law simply because of the influence and wealth that they have amassed through corrupt practices whereas petty offenders get stuck in the mesh of laws. Just happened to come across the Quora question while writing this post https://www.quora.com/Why-is-Mexico-screwed-up

There is evidence to such a state of Kali Yuga in Srimad Bhagavatam (a topmost Vedic scripture/literature)

In Kali-yuga, wealth alone will be considered the sign of a man’s good birth, proper behaviour and fine qualities. And law and justice will be applied only on the basis of one’s power. SB. 12.2.2

The last & 4th question the Maharaj Yudhistir answered was, “How a skinny boy could move a mountain with a thread”

Although this age of Kali is full of faults, there is still one good quality. That simply by chanting the holy names of Krsna, one can at once be freed from mountains of sinful reactions.

Despite this age, Kali Yuga, being full of faults there is one brilliant thing about it i.e. simply by Chanting of the Holy Names (Hare Krsna Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare) one can be free from material bondage (contaminated consciousness) and be elevated to transcendental kingdom of God.

The people of this age as compared to the previous ages are completely incomparable, insignificant and unfortunate [SB 1.1.10 O learned one, in this iron Age of Kali men almost always have but short lives. They are quarrelsome, lazy, misguided, unlucky and, above all, always disturbed.] (signifies weak skinny boy) however simply by taking shelter of Holy Names of Krsna, they can move the mountains of sin and be free.

This is confirmed in SB 12.3.51

Translation:
My dear King, although Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, there is still one good quality about this age: Simply by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the transcendental kingdom.
Purport:

After mentioning the innumerable faults of this Age of Kali, Śukadeva Gosvāmī now mentions its one brilliant aspect. Just as one powerful king can kill innumerable thieves, one brilliant spiritual quality can destroy all the contamination of this age. It is impossible to overestimate the importance of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare, especially in this fallen age.

So, these were the 4 bewildering questions that answered precisely and authentically. I hope these Questions and Answers help the inquisitive in understanding the nature of this age, Kali Yuga and how to be free from its dreadful clutches.

There is a full chapter dedicated in Srimad Bhagavatam to the Symptoms of Kali Yuga. The reason is not to unnecessarily condemn this age but to warn and make us aware of the dangers so that we can be watchful and save ourselves.

Through the process of chanting Hare Krsna mantra one can certainly be freed from the clutches of this dreadful age and attain peace and happiness right in this age.
